A Magna woman suffered smoke inhalation when she tried to rescue a puppy from a fire in her home Monday, said Salt Lake County Fire Capt. Bob Olschesky.

The fire, concentrated in a bedroom at 3765 S. 8200 West, caused about $30,000 in damage, Olschesky said.It began just before 1 p.m. when a 4-year-old boy apparently ignited a mattress while playing with a lighter, Olschesky said.

The woman, 22, was treated and released from Pioneer Valley Hospital, he said.
