Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp. Monday said it has sold its Portable Graphics Inc. subsidiary to privately held Template Graphics Software Inc..
The Austin, Texas-based PGI unit, which E&S acquired in 1994 as a wholly owned subsidiary, provides OpenGL and Open Inventor graphics tool kits for software developers. TGS, a VRML pioneer, is a leading supplier of interactive graphics tools and utilities.A spokesman said PGI will be combined with San Diego-based TGS and San Diego-based VRML Inc. to create a new company, Total Graphics Solution, N.V. E&S said the deal enables the combined to achieve "critical mass" and increased market position in the graphics tools and utilities market-place.
"As our core business growth accelerates, we concluded that the PGI business model was more consistent with TGS and would therefore be of far greater value to that company," said Jim Oyler, president and CEO of Salt Lake-based Evans & Sutherland.
"At E&S we will continue to target our energies on best-in-class visual systems for simulation, digital video, on-board displays, entertainment and education, and desktop graphics technologies."
