A company that owns nine ski areas around the country has agreed to buy the Grand Targhee Ski and Summer Resort in northwestern Wyoming.
Booth Creek Ski Holdings Inc., which is owned by former Vail Associates owner George N. Gillett Jr. and his family, did not disclose terms of the sale, which must still be finalized and approved by various federal agencies."We believe Grand Targhee resort is a jewel, and we are delighted to assist Targhee in reaching its full potential," Gillett said in a statement.
Grand Targhee owners Mory Bergmeyer and Carol Mann have tried unsuccessfully to sell the resort previously. The most recent attempt failed this fall when Bergmeyer said he developed "misgivings" over the deal offered by Seattle resident Gary Rogers and his Charterhouse Group, which had invested in improvements at the area.
Bergmeyer and Mann have owned Targhee since 1987. The resort 45 miles north of Jackson, receives more than 500 inches of snow each year. It employs 350 seasonal employees with a payroll of about $2 million.
