Ed McMahon has settled a $5 million libel lawsuit he filed over a supermarket-tabloid story that said he drank heavily on a flight and stumbled off the plane.
The case had dragged on since May 1993, when McMahon sued the Star and columnist Janet Charlton.The Star acknowledged as part of the settlement that the story was erroneous, said McMahon's publicist. Other terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
The former "Tonight Show" second banana said he was very happy to put the case behind him.
