I resent paying tax on tax. We currently pay Utah state income tax on half of the tax we pay to the IRS. The Utah Legislature can correct that this year. Call your legislators and ask them to give us back what we had prior to 1988 - the right to deduct all of what we pay to the IRS when calculating Utah state income tax. This deduction would distribute the current excess to all Utah taxpayers and eliminate double taxation - a fair and equitable solution.
If we pay property tax, we have property. If we pay sales tax, we have goods or services. If we pay Utah income tax on federal tax, all we have is a canceled check to the IRS. Double taxation should make citizens angry - I suspect most citizens do not fill out their own tax form. If you resent paying tax on tax, revolt. Call your legislators today. Or dump some tea in the Jordan River.Dianne J. Davis
