Claude Raymond Cowley, age 83, died February 2, 1996 in Price.
Born November 13, 1912 in Sunnyside, Utah, the son of Samuel and Kate Woodward Cowley. Married Mildred R. Villard, March 20, 1941 in Norfolk, Virginia. Lifelong resident of Carbon County. Graduated Carbon High School and Utah State University, where he received his Master's degree in administration and was a member of the varsity football team. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Chief Petty Officer. He was an educator and coach in Carbon School District for forty years prior to his retirement in 1977. Member of the Utah Old Timers Athletic Association. Claude was a life member of Price Elk's Lodge #1550, where he served as exalted ruler and currently serving as treasurer. He was a past district deputy for the Utah South State Elk's Assoc. Claude personified the virtues of Elkdom, charity, justice, brotherly love and fidelity. A wonderful husband, father, friend and coach who will be dearly missed by a community of friends.Survived by wife, Mildred R. Cowley, Price; six sons and spouses, Claude A. "Pudley" Cowley, Salt Lake City; Terry L. and Kathy Cowley, Portland, Oregon; Michael F. Cowley, Price; Stephen B. and Robin Cowley, Puyallup, Washington; Jon C. and Dawn Cowley, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Randy L. "Pete" and Wendy Cowley, Price; also survived by nine grandchildren; two brothers, one sister and spouses, Dick and Ruth Cowley, Morgan, Utah; Juanita Duke, Salt Lake City, Utah; Bob and Lucy Cowley, Mountain View, California. Preceded in death by parents, brother and sister and two grandchildren, Dustin Fisher and Christopher Cowley.
Funeral services Tuesday, February 6, 1996, 11 a.m. at the Price Elk's Lodge, located at 23 East 100 North. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. and at the Elk's one hour prior to services. Interment: Price City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Price Elk's Lodge #1550, c/o Frank Snow, Price, Utah 84501.
