A set of quintuplets was born in New York Tuesday to a family who called the babies "a miracle," then asked the public for help feeding, clothing and housing the children in their small apartment.
Pnina Klaver, 47, who had taken the fertility drug perganol, gave birth to three tiny girls and two boys early Tuesday. Born 13 weeks premature, the babies weighed between 1 pound, 9 ounces and 1 pound, 14 ounces."This was not multiple chromosomes falling into place, God was taking a front-row seat for this one," the delighted father, Shmuel Klaver, told a news conference at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
"We feel very blessed," said Klaver, who made a public appeal for financial assistance. The 41-year-old father of the babies, who were not yet named, is a professional drummer and Pnina Klaver is a social worker.
Two of the babies were still in intensive care but were expected to survive, doctors said.
