Lloyd Francis Martin, 72, passed away February 5, 1996 in Sandy, Utah.
He was born May 4, 1923 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Harley Arthur Martin and Opal Adelaide George. He was one of seven children, (Paul, Clarence, Georgia, James Wesley, Lloyd, Wendell and Carl).He married Virginia Ruth Gilliam, May 4, 1946 in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple, August 2, 1962. Lloyd, a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was baptized in the Palmyra Chapel on February 4, 1961, by Elder Duane Huff. Lloyd was a member of the Bishopric of the Syracuse Ward in Syracuse, New York. He later served on the Stake High Council. Though he had many other callings, his emphasis was always on genealogy, where with diligence and persistence he accomplished a mighty work.
Lloyd served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from the University of Iowa. He had a long and distinguished career in hospital and business administration. His expertise, foresight and innovation have benefited many. He was loved and respected for his sure and steadfast nature, his devotion to his family, and the joy he found in everything.
He is survived by his wife, and children, Cathleen Elizabeth Martin (Robert) Frome, Ellis Gilliam (Sherrie) Martin, Maggie Rose, Richard Arthur (Cathy) Martin, Robert Alan (Siuna) Martin, Nathan Bonnel (Debby) Martin; 26 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; brothers, James Wesley Martin, Denver, Colorado; and Wendell Glen Martin, Chicago Heights, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10, 1996 at 11 a.m. at Yale Ward, 1431 East Gilmer Drive. Friends may call during a friendship hour from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Marion Cemetery in Marion, Utah, under the direction of Memorial Estates Mortuary.
