God knew you were suffering That the hills were hard to climb So He gently closed your eyelids And whispered peace be thine. In tears we watched you sinking We watched you fade away. Our hearts were nearly broken, You fought so hard to stay. It broke our hearts to see you go But you did not go alone, For a part of us went with you, The day God called you home.
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, James Fay Jacobson, died at his home in Delta on March 18, 1996 of the leukemia he had valiantly battled for eight years.
Born in Oak City on October 16, 1925 to Irving E. and Olive Melissa Priscott Jacobson, he attended Oak City Elementary School and graduated from Delta High School. He earned the B.S. Degree in chemistry from Brigham Young University where he also minored in mathematics. He did post-graduate work at Utah State University, the University of Missouri School of Mills, Mines, and Metallurgy, and Hope College. He was a master teacher who dedicated over forty years to touching the lives of thousands of students. Through his efforts, Advanced Placement Chemistry course work was introduced into the Millard County School District. He was the recipient of numerous awards for his teaching and received recognition at the local, state and national levels for his pursuit of excellence in the classroom. His students found success because that was what he expected. From his childhood and throughout his life he loved the outdoors and found great pleasure in his horses and horseback riding. He was a skilled woodworker and devoted many hours to his craft. His creations ranged from the practical kitchen cabinet to the artistic knife handle. His hands were always busy. He was a lifelong, active member of the LDS Church and held various ward and stake leadership positions. He married Melba Western in the Manti LDS Temple on May 31, 1950. His family was his greatest treasure and he will be missed. His example will be his greatest legacy.
