The pianists and vocalists of Alpine's Brown family will perform a concert to benefit at-risk American Indian youths. The concert, sponsored by the Anasazi Valley Foundation, will be presented Monday, March 25, at Mountain Ridge Junior High, 5525 W. 10400 North, Highland.
The five children of Keith and Lisa Brown are accomplished pianists and vocalists. Ryan, 10, was among finalists in the recent International Stravinsky Awards in Illinois, competing with 80 musicians from all over the world.Melody, 12, won first- and third-place honors in Utah State Fair competition in 1994 and 1995. She placed sixth at the International Stravinsky Awards competition and received the prestigious Baroque Prize in a field of more than 100 pianists. Gregory, 13, is a Junior Bachauer winner, an International Stravinsky winner (also winning the Baroque Prize) and was one of the youngest musicians ever chosen to solo with the Utah Symphony (at 9) and has been back twice more.
Fifteen-year-old Deondra performed with the Utah Symphony and, with her sister Desirae, played the American premiere of Sir Malcolm Arnold's Concerto for Piano Duet and Strings, Op. 32, with the Intermountain Chamber Orchestra. Desirae, 17, won the International Composer's Guild competition three years in a row and won the Silver Lake International Piano Competition in Wisconsin in 1995.
The young artists will perform on a 9-foot Fazioli F278 concert grand piano, one of only 40 in the United States.
