The 1996 Springdale/Zion National Park March for Parks will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Zion Cinemax Theater courtyard.

According to chairman Carole Falvey, funds raised will go to purchase equipment for the Springdale Town Park."The march is a fun event each year which brings badly needed funds for park projects," said Falvey. As one of the gateway communities to Zion, Springdale wants to enhance its trail system and recreational opportunities consistent with developments inside the park.

Participants will register at the Cinemax courtyard and then walk a course that will lead them past "Slide Hill," site of the huge slippage that destroyed three homes during the September 1992 earthquake. The National Park Service will have an exhibit at the site describing the magnitude and consequences of the 5.9 quake.

From there, marchers will stroll through Springdale, with stops at the Town Hall, the recycling center and the newly constructed water treatment facility.
