She scored perfect 10s at the Olympics, but opponents of Romania's ruling party are finding plenty of fault with Nadia Comaneci's lavish wedding plans.
Comaneci and her fiance, U.S. gold medal gymnast Bart Conner, are to be married April 27 at a Romanian palace built by deposed dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Some 1,500 people have been invited to the wedding.Opposition figures complain the event will bolster the ruling party of President Ion Iliescu ahead of fall elections by cashing in on Comaneci's appeal in her native land.
Comaneci was 14 in 1976 when she became the first gymnast ever to score a perfect 10 at the Olympics. She fled Romania in November 1989, just one month before Ceausescu was ousted and executed in a violent revolution.
