Lloyd P. George, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died May 13, 1996 in Salt Lake City of cancer.
He was born September 17, 1920 at Kanosh to Preal and Artemisia Palmer George. On January 8, 1943 he married Leola Stott in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.After graduating from Millard High School, Lloyd attended BYU. His education was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he trained to fly B-17 bombers. After the war he returned to Kanosh with his wife. They owned and operated a mercantile business and a cattle ranch for 30 years. In 1980, Lloyd and Leola moved to Orem where he owned and was President of Lloyd P. George & Associates, a real estate firm.
Lloyd was a faithful, devoted member of the LDS Church. He served as Bishop of the Kanosh Ward for 10 years. He was later called to be Stake President of the Fillmore, Utah Stake and also served as a missionary to the Piute Indians on the Kanosh Indian Reservation.
Shortly after moving to Orem he was called as a regional representative for the LDS Church. In 1984 he was called to be mission president of the Arizona Tempe Mission. In 1988 Lloyd was called to the First Quorum of Seventy. In this capacity he served in the Area Presidency of the South Pacific area.
Lloyd is survived by: his wife, Leola, Orem; two daughters, JoAnn (Edward) Red, Provo; Janet (Lynn) Finlinson, Dallas, Texas; son, Richard (Jenny) George, Englewood, Colo.; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren-all who loved him very much; brother, Cecil George, Bountiful; sister, Inez Beeston, Fillmore. He was preceded in death by sister, Eloise Warner.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 17, 1996 at 12 noon in the Kanosh Ward. Friends may call at the Hillcrest 6th Ward, 1035 South 800 East, Orem on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10-11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Kanosh Cemetery under the direction of the Nickle Mortuary, Delta.
The family encourages donations to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah Health Sciences Center.
