Road construction on the Utah Valley State College campus should begin in July, officials say. Delays in funding put the start of construction off by about a month.

The $3.4 million in funding was originally in an appropriations bill that Gov. Mike Leavitt vetoed in March. It was later restored during April's special legislative session.UVSC spokesman Val Peterson said the project is in the planning stages now and should go to bid in the middle of June with construction starting about a month later.

The road project will be built in two phases. The first phase will include a European-style roundabout at the college's entrance. A roundabout consists of a circular road with entrances and exits designed to move traffic quickly. Plans also call for widening College Drive, which encircles the campus, to three lanes, including a center turn lane. Improved parking and drop-off points are included in the plans.

The second phase will include access to nearby I-15, including two overpasses, and will require additional funding.
