Police today dropped their case against Isaiah Rider after the Minnesota Timberwolves guard spent a night in jail, according to officials.

Rider was released about 8:15 a.m. from the Oakland City Jail, where he had been held on $20,000 bail, according to jail record clerk J. Johnson.Rider was held overnight after being accused of raping a drugged woman, jail officials said. Other details were unavailable and the investigating officer, Sgt. Greg Hughes, was unavailable for immediate comment.

The 6-foot-5 Rider, the Timberwolves leading scorer, was born and raised in nearby Alameda. He was the fifth player picked in the 1993 draft.

The former UNLV star has had problems before.

In April, Rider settled a lawsuit filed by a woman he was convicted of assaulting at a Minneapolis sports bar in 1994. Kimberly Rakos, 36, suffered lower back injuries after Rider kicked her during a promotional event at America Live Sports Bar, according to the Star Tribune of Minneapolis.

Rider said that Rakos grabbed him and threatened to call security. He said he pushed her with his foot to release himself from her grip, court records said.

He was convicted in September 1994 of fifth-degree assault and sentenced to two years probation, 35 hours of community service and ordered to complete an anger-violence counseling program. He was fined $850 and received a 30-day stayed jail sentence.
