ST. GEORGE MARATHON. The race cap for the 1996 race will be 4000 runners. The first 3800 entries will be first-come first serve, after which all entries will be held for two weeks and will be chosen by lottery. The Marathon is rapidly approaching the 3800 mark. 634-5850.

Basketball

JR. JAZZ. The East Millcreek Recreation Center (272-2243), The Salt Lake County Northwest recreation center (596-0072), and Copperview Community Center (561-0075) are now taking applications for the winter Jr. Jazz basketball program. Salt Lake County Northwest recreation center is taking applications for a youth indoor league. Fee is $10 per player.

The Salt Lake Practical Shooting Association will hold monthly matches and practice sessions. Fridays and Saturdays - Iron Mission (Cedar City). Craftspeople will share their pioneer skills and Saturdays ideas at the park's Artist In Residency series. 586-9290.

13 - Edge of the Cedars. "When Sun Gives Voice to Stone: Calendrical Markers In Rock Art" will explore the use of calendrical markers in Southwestern rock art. Based on his original research, speaker John Fountain will explain the archaeological and astronomical significance of these sites. The presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the park's auditorium and is free. 678-2238.

14 - 15 - Fremont Indian. World Atlatl Competition. Atlatl (ancient spearthrowing device) competitions for various age groups. Competitions run throughout the day on June 14, beginning at 9 a.m. On June 15 competitions begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at lunch. A workshop on primitive toolmaking will be held in the afternoon and an old fashioned dutch oven dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Trading booths will be set up both days.
