Longtime planning by three Panguitch mayors and city councils has finally come to fruition with the launching of construction on a $5.3 million wastewater collection and treatment facility.
The new sewer system will be the first for the city, according to Mayor Maloy Dodds. Mayors of other administrations that have been involved in the planning were John Houston and Elaine Baldwin. The project will be completed by the summer of 1997 under a contract with the George W. Johansen construction firm of Mt. Pleasant, Sanpete County, Dodds an-nounced.
Funding was put in place through grants of $273,000 and loans from state and federal agencies, along with assessed fees for hookups and projected monthly revenue. Nearly 600 residential property owners and 100 businesses will benefit from the sewer system.
