Our caring and loving father, grandfather and friend, Clarence Leslie Fields, passed away unexpectedly at his home, July 26, 1996.
Born February 8, 1923 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the son of Nelson and Elizabeth (Stout) Fields.Clarence was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint at age 16. He is a Canadian Veteran of World War II. He served an LDS mission to Western Canada. He obtained his American Citizenship while attending Brigham Young University, where he graduated with an undergraduate and masters degree in church history. In 1956, he married Myrna Lee Stone in the Salt Lake LDS temple. He enjoyed active membership in the church serving 24 wonderful years in the church education system. He taught seminary in Bancroft, Idaho and at West High in Salt Lake City before becoming the Siminary and Institute Coordinator for the Northern California Bay area, where he also served as the San Francisco Institute Director. He had a great love for the Bay area, and was especially fond of the Sonoma Valley. Throughout his life he has had numerous church callings and since his retirement has served as an active high priest in the Cannon 3rd ward. His love for the gospel and teaching the youth of the church never diminished.
He is survived by two daughters, Tamera L. Sullivan (Tony), Yacaville, Calif.; Catherine L. Binsacca (James), San Mateo, Calif.; three sons, Clarence L. Fields, Jr. (Nancy), Holladay; Gregory C. Fields (Kathleen), Salt Lake City; and Michael T.D. Fields, Salt Lake City; 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Percy N. Fields.
Clarence was always quick with praise and encouragement and looked for good in every situation. His generous nature and his deep baritone rendition of the church hymns will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held Monday, July 29, 1996, 12 noon, at the Cannon 3rd Ward Chapel, 1301 So. 1200 West.
