Our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend returned to his Heavenly Father from his home in Salt Lake City on July 2, 1996 after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure and leukemia.
George was born in Goldfield, Nevada on Nov. 12, 1918 to Mae Elizabeth Agnes Burns and Edgar Orlin Dunnigan. He received his early schooling in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was an outstanding athlete, playing basketball and football. He attended college at Stockton and Santa Rosa, California.He worked on the Union Pacific Railroad and as a tour guide at Boulder Dam before entering the service in World War II. He served in the military police at Fort Douglas and the army engineers in the Asiatic Pacific. After the service he started his career as an electrician. He was a member of the IBEW for 50 years. He married Phyllis Elaine Jensen, May 22, 1948.
Survived by his wife and two children, Diane (Dave) Spainhower and George M. (Debby) Dunnigan; three grandchildren, Ryan Spainhower, Sean and Heather Dunnigan; one brother, Fred Dunnigan. Preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marion Cook and Anne Bellis; one brother, Ed Dunnigan.
Dad enjoyed weightlifting in his younger years. He also enjoyed boating, the great outdoors, and raising flowers. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 12 noon, July 6, 1996 at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 2350 East 1300 South, friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior on Sat. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
