Former pro golfer Kathy Ahern enjoyed her unofficial role as coach for some of the top women players in the world.
"Nothing pleased Kathy more than when one of the players would come up to her and ask if she'd mind taking a look at their swing, or their putting stroke," said Sherri Turner, a close friend to Ahern, who died over the weekend.Ahern, who won the LPGA Championship in 1972, died Saturday after a five-year battle with breast cancer. She was 47.
Ahern died at her mother's home in Fountain Hills, Ariz. She traveled to Phoenix after learning in June that her liver was not functioning properly because of the cancer, which had spread throughout her body. She lived in Greenville, S.C.
