Janet Griffin Lee, Provo, widow of the late Brigham Young University President Rex E. Lee, and Robert L. Millet, Orem, dean of religious education and professor of ancient scripture at BYU, have been elected to Deseret Book Co.'s board of directors.

The announcement was made by Robert H. Garff, board chairman.Lee was born in Paris, France, where her father was an official with the U.S. Treasury Department. She received a bachelor's degree from BYU in elementary education, human development and family relationships. She met and married Rex Lee while she was at BYU.

Rex Lee was BYU president until January 1996, when he asked for a release because of failing health. He died in March.

Janet Lee taught elementary school in Illinois and in the Washington, D.C., area, where she developed reading curriculum and phonics programs for two school districts and has lectured on topics related to elementary education. She has addressed numerous conferences and has written articles for publications of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She has received many honors, including the Exemplary Womanhood Award presented by the BYU Student Association.

A native of Baton Rouge, La., Millet received his bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology and his doctorate from Florida State University in biblical studies and 19th and 20th century religious thought.

Before joining the BYU faculty in 1983, he worked with LDS Social Services as a counselor and in the LDS Education System as a seminar instructor, institute director and teaching support consultant.

He has written or co-written 34 books and published more than 80 articles on subjects related to the doctrine and history of the LDS Church.
