Betrayed in a tell-all book by James Hewitt, her former riding instructor/lover, Princess Diana has fallen victim to another tattler: Shirley Hewitt, the f.r.i./l.'s mother.
Hewitt told the British magazine Hello! that Di used to come over to her house all the time when she was carrying on with James. The observant mother realized that the two were up to hanky-panky, she said, after the princess' first few visits. The princess liked chocolate cake, she didn't mind doing the dishes, and, said her lover's mum, "she would always help carry the things out after lunch." On noticing a messy kitchen cupboard one day, the royal lass even helped with the housekeeping.
"She said, `What's all this? It's disgusting,' " recalled Hewitt, "and cleared the whole lot out and gave the cupboard a good wash."
In the immortal words of the Duchess of Windsor, as cited by Nigel Prance of the Wallis Warfield Simpson Windsor Society in San Francisco, "If you accept a dinner invitation, you have a moral responsibility to be amusing."
