An opening ceremony and flag raising will kick off the city's chamber of commerce Centennial Celebration Sept. 14.

Billed as the city's biggest statehood celebration, the event actually starts at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 with 50-cent carnival rides at Park Elementary School.Officials will block off Center Street at 700 East for the celebration.

Events include free wagon rides, art and quilt exhibits, balloon rides and enter-tainment. Mayor Marie Huff will present the Pioneer Spirit Awards at 6 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Chillon Garden. Centennial business awards and a dinner show will follow.
