Police arrested a third man in connection with a fight Wednesday night that left one man dead and another seriously injured.
An anonymous tip led police to their third arrest Thursday about 8 p.m., according to Salt Lake Police Lt. John Hodson.Steve Trujillo, 19, was arrested at the Quality Inn, 4465 S. Century Drive, and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. Michael Ulibarri, 18, and Phillip Vasquez, 22, were arrested earlier Thursday in separate incidents.
Police began looking for the men after responding to a fight Wednesday night about 11 p.m. where they found one man dead and another badly injured. A witness gave police a vehicle description, and that car was later found by officer John Beener.
Police impounded that car, which led them to their first arrest - Ulibarri. A few hours later, the Salt Lake SWAT team surrounded a Glendale house where a 16-year-old boy surrendered after talking by phone with his mother.
Vasquez was discovered hiding inside that same house. The 16-year-old was questioned but hasn't been arrested, Hodson said.
Hodson said the suspects are affiliated with a local gang, but the motive appears to be drug related.
"Our information so far is that this is a dispute over drugs," he said. Hodson said police are still looking for a fourth suspect in the killing.
The identities of the victims are still not known for sure, he said, as they appear to be "very likely" illegal immigrants.
The man who died is believed to be in his 30s, while a younger man survived both a beating and stab wounds to his neck.
