Jay Livingood, 64, passed away Monday, January 20, 1997 of complications from Parkinson's Disease.

Born Nov. 5, 1932 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Hazel Louise Hill and Tom Wesley Livingood. Married Norma LaRae Hadlock, March 17, 1955 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, Sept. 27, 1955.A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he currently resided in the Bountiful 25th Ward. He served in many church positions during his lifetime including Elder's Quorum president, ward and stake Young Men's president, bishop of the Ogden 30th Ward, Bountiful South Stake High Council, member of the Young Men's General Board assigned to the athletic committee and later to the Melchizedek Priesthood General Board on the Special Interest committee. He especially enjoyed serving as the Gospel Doctrine teacher in Sunday School. Jay traveled extensively for the church in these callings and while he missed the time with his wife and family during this period he felt strongly about his assignments.

A graduate of Ogden High School in 1949, he attended West High in Salt Lake City, Weber State University and participated in many self-improvement classes throughout his life.

Jay was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the US Army, stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico working for Armed Forces Radio.

He was employed by Radio Station KVOG of Ogden for ten years, assisting with the early years of local Utah television at KVOG-TV. He was a member of the Ogden Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Salt Lake Exchange Club. He joined the Deseret News in 1952 as a manager of the Ogden Bureau of the Deseret News. He later moved to Salt Lake City where he was an assistant city editor, weekend editor, opposite editorial page editor, and for many years wrote the very popular "Dining Out" restaurant review column which appeared weekly. At the time of his death he was on long-term disability because of his Parkinson's Disease, but had served as personnel director and was regarded by his fellow employees as a people's personnel director by the concerns of his fellow employees first. For more than ten years, Jay also refereed high school football games which he enjoyed immensely. For several years, he did the public address announcing at Weber State College football and basketball games.

In 1977, he was presented the Community Service Carnation Silver Bowl by Utah Governor Scott B. Matheson in a special ceremony in the governor's office.

Jay did not have any personal hobbies or avocations, but preferred to spend his time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; three daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Ann) Alley, Farmington; Mrs. R. Darin (Sue) Willams, Tremonton; and Mrs. Dale (Joy) Gibb; nine grandchildren, Jay Matthew Alley, Scott J. Alley, Angela Alley, Elizabeth Alley, Rachael Alley, Parker D. Williams, Kelsey Williams, Cambric Williams, Mitchell D. Gibb; sister, Mrs. Richard (Kay) Devoe, North Ogden, sister-in-law, Lorraine Livingood. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Dee "Big D" Livingood.

The family wished to express our appreciation for the kind service and care rendered by the staff of South Davis Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 1997 at the Bountiful 25th Ward, 600 East 1500 So. Bountiful. Viewing will be Friday the 24th at Lindquist Mortuary, 727 No. 400 East, Bountiful from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
