An 8-year-old boy was struck by a car while playing in the front yard of his Sandy home.

The victim, who's name has not been released, was treated at Primary Children's Medical Center for broken legs.About 5:30 p.m., the boy was standing on the sidewalk of his house at 10274 S. Vilas Drive (2280 East) when a northbound car drove onto the curb and struck him, said Sandy Police Sgt. Robert Debotelho.

Apparently the driver had dropped a drink inside the car and was trying to retrieve it when he lost control of the car, Debotelho said.

The driver was a 16-year-old Sandy juvenile. Debotelho said police are withholding the victim's and the driver's names because their parents asked police not to release them.
