Three members of the First Quorum of the Seventy, sustained as General Authorities in October conference 21 years ago, were granted emeritus General Authority status Oct. 4.
The three, Elders J. Richard Clarke, Dean L. Larsen and Robert E. Wells, were called Oct. 1, 1976. Elder Clarke, 70, who was called as second counselor in the Presiding Bishopric in 1976, and to the First Quorum of the Seventy April 6, 1985. He was sustained to the Presidency of the First Quorum on Oct. 1, 1988, and served there until Aug. 15, 1993. He is former president of the South Africa Cape Town Mission.Elder Larsen, 70, was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1976 and to the Presidency of the Seventy Feb. 22, 1980, serving until Aug. 15, 1993. At that time, he was the senior president of the Seventy. He is a former president of the Texas South Mission.
Elder Wells, 69, was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1976 and served and lived extensively in Latin America before and after his call as a General Authority. He is a former president of the Mexico Monterrey Mission.
