Our loving father and brother, John Louis Strike, age 74, passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 9, 1997.
He was born on May 6, 1923, in Salt Lake City to Louis Nicholas Strike and Christina Chipian Strike. In 1950 he married Norma Leston, they had three daughters; they later divorced. On June 20, 1981, he married Sylvia Busler Wood in Cincinnati, OH.He was a graduate of Westminster College, University of Utah, and Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois (with graduate degree). General manager of Ajax Presses, Salt Lake City. President of One Hour Martinizing, Cincinnati. Vice-president of American Laundry Machinery, Cincinnati. Vice-president of Hess and Eisenhardt Company, Cincinnati.
Archon, Order of St. Andrew, Greek Orthodox Church, 33 degree Mason. Member Board of Regents, University of Utah. Chairman of United Way Campaign, Salt Lake City, 1964. Director of Utah Management Institute of the University of Utah College of Business. Professor of Management Northwestern University and the University of Utah. Received Outstanding Achievement Award from the University of Utah College of Business.
He will be remembered for his love of his church and his family, and his passion for teaching and lifelong learning.
Survived by wife, Sylvia Busler Strike, Cincinnati, OH; daughters, Dr. Christine Roussos, Santa Monica, CA; Alice Strike, Sarasota, FL; and Julie Steele, Salt Lake City, UT; stepchildren, Anthony Wood, Cincinnati, OH; Deirdre Wood Black, Los Angeles, CA; and Cassandra Wood, Saratoga Springs, NY; eight grandchildren; a sister, Kay Strike Politis, River Forest, IL; a brother, George Strike, Cincinnati, OH.
Preceded in death by brother, Nicholas L. Strike, Salt Lake City.
A viewing and prayer service will be held Tuesday, November 11, 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple. Services will be held Wednesday, November 12, 12 noon, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 279 South 300 West, Salt Lake City, UT 84101. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the church.
