Bertha Amador Mayer, age 86, passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, in Bountiful, Utah.
She was born on October 3, 1911, in Tlahualilo-Durango, Mexico to Sacramento Amador Renteria and Florentina Martinez de Amador. She married Vicente Villanueva Mayer in the Cathedral of the Madeline on October 16, 1931. She had nine children and raised eight to maturity. She also had 28 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.She was a devoted wife and mother who instilled the virtues of love and kindness in her children and grandchildren and will long be remembered for her selfless acts of kindness to others. She will also be remembered for her beautiful singing voice and the parties where she loved to cook Mexican food for the entire neighborhood.
She is survived by her children, Edward H. Mayer, Maria Elena Contratto, Rose VanDiggelen, Carmen Anderson, all of Bountiful, UT, Vincent Mayer Jr., Reston, VA, Yolanda Whiteman, Palm Springs, CA, Esther Shutt, Layton, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband Vicente, her daughters Sarita and Gloria Garcia, three grandsons, Tony, Andy and Robbie Garcia and a great-granddaughter, Sara Brown.
Funeral Mass will held, Friday November 21, at 11 a.m., St. Olafs, 1800 So. Orchard Drive Bountiful, UT. Rosary will be held Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m. Russon Brothers Mortuary 295 North Main, Bountiful, UT, where friends and family may call from 6-7:45 p.m. Burial in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
