Monday will be a big day in the life of Salt Lake lawyer Dale A. Kimball. He's scheduled to be sworn in as a federal judge at noon in U.S. District Court, 350 S. Main.

President Clinton nominated Kimball for the post on Sept. 4. The nomination flew through the Senate Judiciary Committee, shepherded by the committee's chairman, Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah. Senate confirmation followed by voice vote on Oct. 22.Kimball, 57, earned his bachelor's degree at Brigham Young University in 1964 and his law degree at the University of Utah Law School in 1967. He won the Utah Bar Association's 1996 Distinguished Lawyer of the Year Award.

He is the senior partner of the firm Kimball, Parr, Waddoups, Brown & Gee. He taught law at Brigham Young University and was an associate and a partner at Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy. He served on the Deseret News Board of Directors.
