Circle K stores are teaming with the Ogden Police Department to combat crime.

The convenience store chain has added police substations to two of its Ogden locations. The stores are providing officers with an office, a desk, a fax machine and a phone."It increases our presence in the neighborhoods," Ogden police Sgt. Dan Greenhalgh said. "With the offices in the stores, we can write reports there instead of returning to the station."

Officers in the stores will also deter potential shoplifters and robbers, said Bill Link, assistant manager of the 3186 Washington Blvd. location. Police watch the store on a video monitoring system while in the office.

The stations also provide residents with a convenient way to get information. The stores have also installed a bulletin board, which displays information on neighborhood watch programs and missing people, Greenhalgh said. Officers will also distribute pamphlets on crime prevention through the stations.

Circle K plans on expanding the program. It will eventually add police offices to stores in Salt Lake City and other parts of Utah.
