FOOTBALL: Sophomore running back Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala was voted the University of Utah football team's Most Valuable Player, while junior wide receiver Kevin Dyson was picked as offensive MVP and sophomore linebacker Robert Love was named defensive MVP.
Other award winners included: Chad Folk, Armand Boglin and Bull Heffernan (most inspirational); Terence Keehan and Harold Lusk (coaches' award); Boo Bendinger and David Richards (rookies of the year); and Barry Sims, Vince Tauanuu and Chris Godfrey (most improved).
RECRUIT: Matt Moffit, a 6-foot-3, 300-pound offensive lineman from Jordan High has committed to play for the University of Utah next year.

SWIMMING: Arizona State's 10th-ranked men's swimming and diving team proved too much for BYU, beating the Cougars 184-11 in Tempe, Friday.
The diving titles went to BYU senior Nate Cook, who completed the season undefeated in dual meets.
The other BYU wins went to sophomore transfer Dmitri Malinovski in the 100 breaststroke and the Cougars' 200 free relay team.
TENNIS: BYU's 32nd-ranked women's tennis team remained undefeated and exacted a little revenge in the process, with a 6-3 win over 24th-ranked Northwestern, Friday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The top of the Cougar singles lineup came through big for the Cougars, with Eline Chiew winning the key match at No. 1 singles in a 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 marathon.
Angela Jewell and Adrien Jenkins at second and third singles respectively, also come up with big wins.
VOLLEYBALL: No. 1-ranked Stanford journeyed to Provo Saturday night for a men's volleyball game and got run out of town by No. 3 BYU, 13-15, 15-12, 15-4, 16-17, and 15-12.
Ryan Millar, 6-7 sophomore from Lancaster Calif., tallied 28 kills with Oswald Antonetti, 6-1 sophomore from San Juan, Puerto Rico, close behind with 24 kills.
Leading with blocks was Hector Lebron, a 6-2 freshman alsofrom San Juan, with 12 and Kennan Vance, 6-4 senior from Salt Lake City with 11.
Utah State
SOFTBALL: On the second day of the Arizona State Coca-Cola Classic, Utah State women's softball team captured a win over Ohio State, 5-4, but then dropped the second game to McNeese State 2-1.
Utah State came from behind in the first game when sophomore Emily Wilson pounded out a home run in the seventh inning. Sophomore Tammy Alcantar added a two-run shot in the fourth for the Aggies. Senior Rhea Thorn picked up her first win of the year.
