Once upon a time there was a hotel called the Boston Statler. Today that hotel is the Boston Park Plaza, and many changes have been made.

What hasn't changed, though, is the hotel's rich history. For instance, hotel historians tell us:- The ground on which the building rests was once the beach from which British troops embarked on the trip that ended in the Battle of Lexington.

- The Boston Statler was the nation's first hotel to outfit every guest room with radios. And those radios brought in two stations!

- With its 1,300 guest rooms, the Boston Statler was the largest hotel in New England for five decades.

- In 1927, room rates ranged from $3.50 to $5, single occupancy.

- In 1922, Statler bought the triangular plot of land on which the hotel still sits - 60,000 square feet for $450,000.

- The building has 5 million bricks and 40 miles of plumbing.
