Dr. Dominic Albo Jr. and Joseph P. Howa are the honorees for this year's Founders' Day celebration at the College of Eastern Utah.

The 60th anniversary event was held Wednesday at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City.Albo, a prominent Salt Lake surgeon, received the outstanding alumni award. Howa, founder of one of the largest construction firms in Utah, was honored with the lifetime achievement award.

A Helper native, Albo graduated from Carbon High School and the then Carbon College. At the college, he was a member of the student council, the athletic boosters and the football and baseball teams. He received an honorary degree from CEU in 1988.

Albo graduated from the University of Utah and received his medical degree from St. Louis University.

Albo is a faculty member in the U.'s department of surgery, where he specializes in vascular and general surgery. He has also been named associate dean of clinical affairs and serves as an adjunct professor of bioengineering.

Howa, owner of Howa Construction Co., graduated from Carbon High School and the University of Utah. After working for a number of construction firms and at Kennecott, Howa started his own firm in 1951. Its first project was the Notre Dame School in Price, followed by the Jewish Community Center in Salt Lake City.

He retired in 1986. Howa has been active in many community activities in Utah, including Little League baseball and the Salt Lake Police/Sheriff Honorary Colonels. He also built a playground for the children of abused women at the YWCA and has participated in several other community projects.
