Brigham Young University ranks 11th in the nation for enrollment of National Merit Scholars, according to the National Merit Corp.

During fall semester 1996, BYU enrolled 128 Merit Scholars, ranking just behind the University of California, Berkeley. The top 10 include Harvard/Radcliffe College (391 Merit Scholars), the University of Texas, Austin (299), Rice University (204), Stanford University (184), Texas A&M University, College Station (183), the University of Florida (177) and Yale University (165).BYU placed in the top 10 in 1994 and 1991 and has consistently been ranked in the top 15 since 1990.
