Law enforcement officials have located what they believe are partial remains of 6-year-old Lance Guevarra, who was last seen leaving a neighbor's house in August 1996.
Wednesday, a 17-year-old male informed Kane County Chief Deputy Sheriff Allen Johnson that he knew the location of the boy's body, according to Kane County sheriff's officials.About 25 people from the sheriff's office, Utah Department of Investigations, Utah Medical Examiner's office, FBI, Utah Highway Patrol and the Big Water town marshal began searching a 300-square-yard area about a half mile from Guevarra's home Thursday. But despite an intense effort, officers were unable to pinpoint the gravesite, officials said.
Friday, the informant was flown from Las Vegas and escorted to the place he had indicated. The informant directed officers to dig at a specific site and they were able to recover "objects" believed to be Guevarra's remains, officials said.
The informant is not in police custody, but he is the primary suspect, officials said. He is in a "secure, supervised setting known to law enforcement authorities," according to police press release.
Guevarra was reported missing Aug. 13 after leaving a neighbor's house to retrieve a video game from his house.
