Students who earn degrees in 1997 will receive more than a tassel and diploma when they graduate, thanks to BYU's Student Alumni Association.

The association will sponsor a free BYU Senior Celebration April 11, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the south end of Cougar Stadium. The event will include entertainment, food, photo opportunities with BYU personalities, major giveaways and a few surprises. The 5,000 to 6,000 students who will graduate in April, August or December qualify for the party. Although they may attend at no cost, tickets are required and may be obtained at the BYU Alumni House through April 4. Those attending may also bring one guest for $5. For more information, call 378- 7621, 378-2164 or 378-7741.

The idea for a senior party originated with Ida Smith, who directs the BYU Student Alumni Association. A student executive board headed by graduating class president Stephen Whyte together with employees from several departments campuswide have been working since January to give the graduates a memorable send-off.

Additionally, the student board attended a national convention for student alumni associations in August and collected several ideas for the April party from other colleges and universities.
