The afternoon of March 4, 1997, Edna Leone Karren Brewster made the peaceful transition from this life to a joyous reunion with her eternal companion and other loved ones. A child of the Twentieth Century, she recently celebrated her 97th Birthday on January 14, 1997.

She was born in a humble home in northwest Salt Lake City, the fourth of 10 children in the family of Robert Blair and Mary Kronow Karren. She is survived by only one sibling, Louise K. Peterson of Centerville, Utah.Blessed with a zest for life and thirst for knowledge, the last few years she has been the oldest living graduate of West High School. The necessity of helping support her family prevented acceptance of an offered University scholarship.

A faithful missionary sweetheart, she married Sheldon Riser Brewster on October 19, 1921 in the Salt Lake Temple, within two months of the completion of his mission. Four children were born to their union, but she was a second mother to many others. Her home was a haven for many seeking counsel or even shelter, or just to benefit from her boundless love.

A lifelong member of the LDS Church, she answered calls in all the organizations.

Her favorite was working with the young people. Her calling as wife of the 3rd Ward bishop for 18 years brought her cherished experiences and lifetime love of countless friends. She was the perfect supportive wife as her husband ventured into real estate development, politics and finally as a round-the-world tour guide.

Her husband preceded her by 16 years, as well as two children-a son, Blair Hayes Brewster, and daughter, Joyce Brewster Lundeberg. Two children survive-Robert Sheldon (Donna M.) Brewster and Nadine Edna Brewster (Charles V.) Burnett. "Nana" also left a worthy posterity-23 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted at the Ensign Peak Ward, 125 East North Sandrun Road, SLC, at 12 noon, on Saturday, March 8th. A viewing will be held at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 7th South, 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 7, or one hour prior to services at the ward.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rocky Mountain Hospice in Bountiful, a most dedicated staff of care givers due our heartfelt thanks.
