Motorists who rely on Redwood Road to get through this southwest valley community might want to consider alternate routes between now and November.
The Utah Department of Transportation on Thursday began widening Redwood Road between 6400 South and 7800 South. A second project, widening the road from two to five lanes between 7800 South and 9000 South, will begin in about a month. The first section should be completed in October, the second in November.UDOT project engineers say their goal is to keep one lane of traffic flowing in each direction at all times, but there will be congestion. Two roads are recommended as alternate north-south routes - 1300 West and 2200 West.
The two widening projects were previously planned and are not part of the package of road-widening and restriping projects UDOT has planned to help ease congestion while I-15 is being reconstructed. Those projects are being defined but likely will include additional work to Redwood Road farther north, beginning in the spring and continuing through the summer.
