Hong Kong Gov. Chris Patten reviews a Royal Navy honor guard Friday during the decommissioning of HMS Tamar, the Royal Navy's last shore establishment in the Far East. The ceremony took place exactly 100 years after the carrier Tamar first anchored in Hong Kong on April 11, 1897. But the departure was "no cause for thinking sad thoughts," Patten said. The navy fought piracy and the Japanese army and isolated Hong Kong from the turmoil of China's 1949 communist revolution.
