A 3rd District judge on Friday sentenced two men to serve prison terms in the 1996 shooting death of a West Salt Lake man.
Savon Germaine Carter, 22, was sentenced to serve up to life in prison for the slaying of Jorge Soto-Fierro. He had pleaded guilty to murder, a first-degree felony, court records show.Judge Frank G. Noel also ordered Carter to consecutively serve another one to five years in prison for firearm enhancement and pay a $4,600 fine.
The judge sentenced Christopher Catre Barnes, 22, to serve two concurrent one-to-15-year prison terms for robbery and manslaughter. Barnes had pleaded guilty to the second-degree felony counts, court records show.
Barnes also was ordered to consecutively serve a six-to-15-year and one-to-five-year prison term for gang and gun enhancements, respectively, according to court records. He also must pay a $3,700 fine.
On March 30, 1996, Soto-Fierro, who was in his early 20s, was fatally shot once in the chest at close range at the Woodhaven Apartments, 651 S. Redwood Road.
Tina Louise Archuletta, 24, is accused of telling a group of men to rob her boyfriend of drugs and cash, charges state. She allegedly waited in the car during the killing.
Archuletta is charged with murder and aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, in connection with the slaying. She is being held in prison, court records state.
Antoine Johnson, 20, also is charged with murder and aggravated robbery in the slaying. He is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail.
Both await a July 7 jury trial.
