A little motherly love goes a long way even into orbit.

Astronaut Jerry Linenger, on a four-month mission aboard the Russian space station Mir, got a chance to chat with his mother during a six-minute hookup with WCSX-FM in Detroit on Thursday."Hi, Jerry. How are you doing?" asked his mother, Frances Linenger.

"Hi, Mom, great to hear your voice," Linenger said, assuring her he was fine.

The astronauts are back at work after a fire aboard Mir in February almost forced them to evacuate. Linenger joined the Mir crew in January and said he hopes to be back on Earth in late May. "We'll all be there for the landing," his mother said.
