You just put your lips together and . . . blow.

No one did that better than Tanguay Desgagne of Sherbrook, Quebec, who became the new international whistling grand champion Saturday at the 24th annual International Whistlers Convention and Music Festival.Mary Frances Herndon of Sedalia, Mo., was named the female champion, while former grand champion Joel Brandon of Chicago was given the Hall of Fame Award. He is now whistling his way around the world, performing with symphonies and jazz orchestras.

The contests were part of "Happy Whistlers Week," sponsored by the Franklin County Arts Council.
