Less than two days after attempting suicide, a man who killed a woman while robbing a topless nightclub in 1989 was put to death by lethal injection.

David Lee Herman, 39, tried to slash his throat and wrist with a plastic razor on Tuesday. He spent three hours in a hospital getting his wounds stitched and was executed Wednesday."I am here because I took a life, and killing is wrong, by an individual and by the state," he said while strapped to the death chamber gurney. "And I am sorry we are here, but if my death will give you some closure and allow you some peace, then I welcome my death."
