The former head of the Davis Metro Narcotics Strike Force was arrested Sunday on a warrant for failing to appear in court on drug and weapons charges.

Salt Lake police arrested Kent M. Lewis after responding to a suspicious circumstances call.Officers went to a convenience store after being told a man wearing a ski mask was seen in the store parking lot, said Davis County prosecutor Steve Major. But when police arrived, they were unable to confirm anyone had a ski mask.

Officers ran identity checks, discovered the warrant issued for Lewis and arrested him.

Lewis was scheduled for a preliminary hearing last Friday in 2nd District Court on felony drug and weapons charges but failed to appear. Judge Rodney S. Page issued a no-bail arrest warrant.

Lewis was arrested April 13 after the car he was driving ran off the road and struck a tree in Woods Cross. Police determined Lewis was impaired from alcohol or drugs and arrested him, Major said.

A search of his car turned up crack cocaine and a pipe, and police also found two loaded handguns that Lewis admitted were his, Major said.

In an earlier court appearance, Lewis told the judge he was living in a motor home parked behind a pawn shop he owns on Main Street in Sunset.

Lewis appeared in court Monday afternoon, and Judge Glen Dawson declined to set a new bail amount.
