Malualani (Malu) Hoopiiaina, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend died peacefully May 20, 1997 at L.D.S. Hospital in Salt Lake City after many years of heart and pulmonary problems.

Malu was born February 18, 1915, in Iosepa, the Hawaiian Colony in Skull Valley, Tooele County, Utah, to Caroline Fia and Benjamin Hoopiiaina. He grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated from L.D.S. College in 1931. He married Alta Eugster, later divorced. Married Cuma Sorenson Forsyth, February 18, 1955.Malu was founder and owner of Intermountain Steel & Supply. He owned Monsey Iron and United Iron Works. He served as President of the Institute of Scrap Iron & Steel, Rocky Mountain Chapter, and was also on the National Board of Directors of I.S.I.S. He was a member of Oakridge Country Club, was on the Board of Directors, and served as President 1960-61. He also served on the Board of Directors of Alpine Country Club. Malu played softball for 21 years, winning state and local titles. He was a great fisherman and an avid golfer, winning C, B, A and Championship flights all in one year, and had three holes-in-one. His greatest pleasure was spending winter months on the Kona Coast in Hawaii playing golf with his buddies and dear friends. He was a friend to everyone and never met a person he did not like. He would give a helping hand to anyone.

He was a member of the LDS Church, Monument Park 8th Ward. He served as a teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and built and donated the ward's first library.

Survived by his wife Cuma, son, Marlin (Moe) Forsyth; brothers, Ben and Clifford; grandchildren, Samantha Nolan, Mike Gatlin, Ashley, Channing, Chelsea Forsyth and their mother Betty Forsyth; 10 great- grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Inez Gatlin; brothers, Wilford and John; sisters, Violet and Viona.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 23, 1997, at Monument Park 8th Ward, 1784 Texas Street (1750 So. 2430 East), Salt Lake City. Friends may call at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 So., Thursday evening, May 22, 6-8 p.m. and one hour before at the ward on Saturday. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Primary Children's Hospital, 100 No. Medical Dr., Salt Lake City, UT. 84113 or your favorite charity.
