Fireworks and a laser show illuminate the Winter Garden Theater in New York as "Cats" overtakes "A Chorus Line" as the longest-running show in Broadway history on Thursday with 6,138 performances. An exuberant Andrew Lloyd Webber, who usually leaves the singing to his performers, took to the stage and belted out a "Cats" song. The lavish feline musical, which has relentlessly trumpeted its run as "now and forever," originally opened Oct. 7, 1982. After the show, theatergoers followed the cast out onto Broadway for a massive fireworks display.
