A firefighter attends to two youths injured, above, in the collapse of a water slide in Concord, Calif. A teenager was killed and 32 injured when a mass of high school seniors swarmed onto the slide for one last ride before getting on the school bus to leave a picnic at Waterworld USA. The three-story slide collapsed, sending the students tumbling down on concrete, wood steps and landscaping and turning the pool red with blood. Six teens were listed in critical condition. "I heard a crash of the slide breaking. There was blood in the water, quite a bit of blood," said Mark Fisher, a student who witnessed Monday's accident. The collapsed portion of the slide is in the left side of the right-hand photo.
