Dr. Mark A. Coombs, age 48, of Tempe, Arizona died May 30, 1997 of cancer.

He was born in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School. Following a mission served in England, he finished his schooling at the University of Utah, and received his PhD in Bio-Physics from Rochester University, New York. He served as a Major in the U.S. Army. At the time of his death, he was the Director and Radiation Protection Officer for Arizona State University and a Certified Health Physicist.Survived by his former wife, LeeAnna Xanthos; daughter, Toni; son, Michael Xanthos Coombs; parents, Melburn Mark and Margaret Bateman Coombs; sisters, Cathie (Dave) Vickers; Cheryl (Doug) Thompson; Carolyn Coombs Vogen; and brother, Michael Bateman Coombs.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, at the Lakeshore First Ward Chapel, 6001 Lakeshore Drive, Temple, Arizona. Friends may call at the Meldrum Mortuary, Mesa, on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.
