A fire at the Holiday Motel, 3035 S. State, caused extensive damage to a storage room and displaced about 20 guests Sunday.
South Salt Lake Fire Capt. Steve Foote said a guest room being used for storage on the lower level of the two-story motel was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at about 12:40 p.m.To make matters worse, firefighters discovered the room contained numerous cans of paint, thinner and other flammable substances. After ensuring that all motel guests had evacuated nearby rooms, fire- fighters attacked the blaze and had it under control within about 10 minutes, Foote said. No one was injured.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. No damage estimates were available Monday.
